Fixer Elixir

Breathe-
she says IN all these sparks
I scatter your way …

Here we are, 13 days into National Poetry Month, and I’ve posted far less poetry than usual. I’m writing lots; incubating, exploring characters, dreams, forms, rhythms- but not feeling like anything is finished enough to post.  What’s so different this time?

Breathe

she says   IN    all these sparks

    I          scatter    your way

just stop         thinking,           start

drinking  it all      down a little

deeper, this juice, this                tincture,  salve

for the       soul.   You  want          the final fixer,

Elixir, here I am-

Breathe.

Actually, writing is feeling really good now- and I’m thrilled April is here, I’m making more time for poetry.  Lots of inspiration, joy when I write, hunger for it all… but I have too many balls in the air to court my Muses properly. (Anyone else feel like this?) Feels like I need to submerge with the  Muses for awhile, a day (at least an hour! 😉  and not just quickie exercises or posts.

But one good thing- I’m writing song lyrics all over the place. No problem there. Our new project- Fistful of Stars, has about 12 new songs, and we wrote another 2 last week.  I love it when I get to write the lyrics to fit the emotional, energetic, kinetic feel of a song.  Mine or anyone else’s- pure joy.

Funny, what I posted about this time 2 years ago is spot on for me now as well:  A feeling that Muses are impatient with m–, all while I book gigs, plan a Summer Europe tour, cater to the Lyric Muses, plant my garden, and try to finish taxes… Ha!

——————————————————————

Nothing kills Muses like taxes.

But there were so many great things about this week…. the Europe tour is coming together nicely; we’re working on videos. My garden is growing; and the hunter moon is lighting the skies.

“Jealous Muse

Time for a million
& none for me- gives zero
to the bossa waiting patiently.
We could sip wine & light a fuse
taxes & death are no excuse.

Too many moons

have passed

since I walked this path

      with you.

Yet, Mystery and Beauty~

our shared

companions,

still blossom.

SecretMacro_0308

Can you guess what mysterious beauty this is?   (HINT: It is from a real object- not abstract art).  The first person to guess, I will gift you a free digital CD download- of your choice from here, digital download only.  If you already have my music, we’ll figure something else out.

In getting ready for National Poetry Month, I’m going to re-grease the blogging wheels. MUCH to show for my absence. Will get back to recognizing ‘new’ artists, and past post features: Artists Crush, Inspired in Oakland, Musical Musings, New Jewelry updates & some surprises.  What blogs/topics are inspiring you lately? I would love to hear your thoughts on this post and others to come!

Just a little reminder that today (midnight PST) is the last day to bid on 2 pieces of jewelry, the proceeds, 100% of which go to non-profit CARE to assist typhoon victims of   Haiyan, Philippines. Creatively now, with my jewelry designs, I am following two very different Muses. But then as my shop banner shows for my Etsy shop Three Muses, this is nothing new: Muses can be poetic, musical, artistic, male, female and from all parts of the globe.

Now, I  have one Muse still lingering from my recent Chaco Canyon excursion.

An image of the ruins of Pueblo Bonito in Chac...

Thus, some designs are looking like this:

The other Muse is sashaying across the stage, sporting crystals & fringe on her 1920’s flapper dress.  And so we get some holiday bling when she passes by.

I finished one piece and have others in the works- a bracelet, and pendants inspired by Marina Rios’ designs (resin dryng…), so stop back by in a day or so to see more.

OrionNcklc1

For the pendant on this necklace, I used a Mayan raku lentil focal (Wonderous Strange) with subdued but shimmering gold/pink/blue hues. From a gold hand-hammered link, dangles of large raw appetite, chalcedony, and smoky quartz teardrops.  (My first headpins inspired by Fanciful Devices- headpins tutorial.. Yippee! 😉

The color palate of this photo was hard to cover completely! At first I started with saturated colors and lots of crystals for stars. But I was drawn to the Mayan lentil (as a pod for birthing…), and wanted to keep it more organic.  For the oranges and pinks, I used some coveted enameled rounds from Andrew Thornton, along with fire agate, and light citrine. Two more colors of blue Chalcedony for the aquas.  All finished off with grey, peach, and tanzanite colored silk sari ribbons.  I’ll post the other pieces as I finish them. (the picture keeps inspiring more!)

There is a delay in blog postings (my west-coast bent and a late reminder)  😉  BUT keep checking back: the artists participating are a diverse (cool!!) group of poets, designers, jewelers,  photographers.  Some are posting after work today, from various time zones, or need more time  Check back over the next coupla’ days.

Happy Blog hopping!

Day 2: Juiced. NapoWriMo

Normally, where the city breaths-
thick, forced thru concrete, rush
traffic and hurry
–anxiety
small layers too small to feel
building small armors all the same.

Today’s prompt- all that happened on this morning’s walk through the city, with puppy Chula.

Normally, where the city breathes-
thick, forced through concrete, rush
traffic and hurry

anxiety

small layers too small to feel
building small armors all the same.

Today, the city breathes
something else.       First

the woman, clutching coffee
urban sounding in quick heeled steps
sees Chula’s floppy ears,
smiles
despite time and hum    and then

the installer, working against the clock
bends close to tell me…pain in the knee…sports, how
a diet of juice is the perfect medicine
grapefruit juice…all you need for lactic acid and stress.

This new gridded breath, confirmed when
uniform delivery man darts
down stairs to the street
almost slamming into us- sends Chula
to the curb

Ah! I’mSOsorry, are you OK!?
hand on my elbow, our eyes shocked wide
and locked, laughing with

    suddenness.

Tender is the city today
No time for armor
thirsty for

    grapefruit juice.

Thank you for joining me 😉  & Happy Creating!         Photo source: NASA/Hubble site

Photo Details from NASA/Hubble:

“Located 1,500 light-years away from Earth, the Orion nebula is the brightest star in the sword of the hunter constellation. The cosmic cloud is also our closest massive star-formation factory, and astronomers suspect that it contains about 1,000 young stars.

…this image from NASA’s Spitzer and Hubble Space Telescopes looks more like an abstract painting than a cosmic snapshot. The magnificent masterpiece shows the Orion nebula in an explosion of infrared, ultraviolet and visible-light colors. It was “painted” by hundreds of baby stars on a canvas of gas and dust, with intense ultraviolet light and strong stellar winds as brushes.

At the heart of the artwork is a set of four monstrously massive stars, collectively called the Trapezium. These behemoths are approximately 100,000 times brighter than our sun. Their community can be identified as the yellow smudge near the center of the composite.

The swirls of green were revealed by Hubble’s ultraviolet and visible-light detectors. They are hydrogen and sulfur gases heated by intense ultraviolet radiation from the Trapezium’s stars.

Wisps of red, also detected by Spitzer, indicate infrared light from illuminated clouds containing carbon-rich molecules called polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. On Earth, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons are found on burnt toast and in automobile exhaust.

Additional stars in Orion are sprinkled throughout the image in a rainbow of colors. Spitzer exposed infant stars deeply embedded in a cocoon of dust and gas (orange-yellow dots). Hubble found less embedded stars (specks of green) and stars in the foreground (blue). Stellar winds from clusters of newborn stars scattered throughout the cloud etched all of the well-defined ridges and cavities.”

Mondays, Macro, and Drum Solos

Mondays are always special because we have a full band rehearsal. …and because of seeing something very up close and personal from the weekend before… and because of drums. You can either see drum solos on my FB, or like/vote/comment to see them here.

Mondays are always special because we have a full band rehearsal.  Being around my band family makes me all warm & fuzzy inside; I would do anything for these guys & grrrls.  All the study and work they have done all lifelong, times 5 people- on drums, bass, guitar, sax/clarinet, trumpet/clarinet- is all crammed into my little dining room (sans table)- and everyone plays their hearts out.  I may write the music, but these are the magic makers that make me want to sing. 🙂 After practice, we all cram around the kitchen table for a quick lunch before everyone takes off into the week.  Many of them will have several rehearsals & gigs all week. It is very grounding start to the week; friends, music, & food on Mondays. One day, I will remember to take pics.  But here is the studio…

music studio1097

And Mondays are about little things: like looking through weekend pics to find something I saw up close and personal.

poppy_1089

And Mondays are special because of drums: I am getting back to the habit of posting a special drum solo on my TL music Facebook page. You can either click on this page to see; (click “like”, button on the right- & add to your list of pages to be notified).

OR If you would rather see drum solos here on Mondays- & if enough people say ‘Yeah!’,  then I will post them here too.  Why drums? I started there musically, singing behind the kit.  The love affair goes on.  Rhythm rules!!!

Last week, I posted this:

More macro here…
