Not sure the cultural bent of these wonderful dances and music; the lyrics sounded Spanish, rhythms; African-Caribbean- mambo plus. This in itself is Oakland; a multi-cultured blend. The singers sang and called out, the dancer- moved in response, large flowing skirts and fluid moves- beautiful.

  1. So Oakland indeed! How nice to be able to find (indeed, stumble across) so many different cultures and arts all in the same place. They may be Brazilian – although not sure – the white headscarf and long, flowing skirts made me think of it (my mom lived there in the early 1960s and I visited in the 1990s), a country with an incredible array of music and dance.
